Free Admission with Monetary Donation to Charity at Hawkeye Downs July 31, 2015 with All Proceeds Directed to Cedar Rapids Firefighters Foundation Directed towards the Safe Sleep Task Force of Eastern Iowa Initiative

On Friday,July 31, community members are invited to enjoy a free night at Hawkeye Downs Raceway knowing their entry fee will go to a great cause. Admission, normally $10, has been changed to a monetary donation with Van Meter Inc.’s annual race sponsorship.  In return, race fans are encouraged to give a monetary donation with 100 percent of the proceeds directed to Cedar Rapids Firefighters Foundation, directing funds to the Safe Sleep Task Force of Eastern Iowa. The money raised will help provide a free Pack N’ Play portable crib and a set of crib sheets for families who attend a two-hour educational class on safe sleep as part of the Cribs for Kids program to promote safe sleep environments for infants.

The event will feature a celebrity Legend Car Pride Race between Van Meter Vice President of Distribution and Sales Support Scott Presley, KCRG-TV’s Reporter, Forrest Saunders, 1600 KGYM’s program director, Scott Unash, and Big 10 Network Commentator and former NFL and Hawkeye Football legend, Chuck Long.  This event has become an annual tradition sponsored by the employees of Van Meter.

“We choose a different local charity each year to support. Our goal is to help raise awareness and financial support for the cause,” said Vice President of Sales Todd Ettleman. “Over the last five years we’ve been able to donate over $26,000 to various community organizations and look forward to helping another great organization. We see this as an opportunity for us to entertain our employees, customers, and members of the community at the raceway, all while achieving one of our core principles in giving back to the community.”

The gates at Hawkeye Downs Speedway open at 6 PM, Pre-race ceremonies are at 7:25 pm and races start at 7:30 PM.  Admission will be a monetary donation at the gate.
