(Cedar Rapids, IA  06/29/2016)—The temperatures aren’t the only thing that have been heating up as the point battles heat up as well headed into week nine of the Hy-Vee Racing Series at Hawkeye Downs Speedway.

A full program of HY-VEE Racing Series heat and feature racing is on the card this week as Performance Concepts Big 8 Late Models, Anderson Automotive Hobby Stocks, Mountain Dew Sportsmen, Miller Time Hornets, and Dublin City Pub INEX Legend Cars will take to the track to battle for track and Hard Charger Series points.

The Dodge Street Tire Lil’ Racer Car Club is holding Big Wheel Races for the kids this week during Intermission. Kids should check-in and sign-up for Big Wheel Races when they get to the track. This week’s club sponsor is Professional Muffler and Coulbourn Racing.

The club has something in store for the adults this week as well with an auction for some classic racing trophies donated to the club by Roger Dolan AND some Dale Earnhardt, SR. Racing Collectibles. Stop by the clubhouse under the main Grandstand and get in your bids!

The point race in Performance Concepts Late Models remains tight with Brian Gibson holding a ten-marker edge over Brad Osborn. A few competitors have raced elsewhere over the past couple weeks but are expected back this week.

Greg Hentrich has a scant 4 point edge over Jim Hanson in Mountain Dew Sportsmen. The field is expected to be joined by a couple new cars this week.

Jim Hanson continues to dominate The Anderson Automotive Hobby Stocks but the racing has been very competitive with Braxton Franks picking up first  career win last week.  Gerald Hall sits second on the points chart.

The Dublin City Pub INEX Legends have seen five different winners so far this season with defending champion Kevin Korsmo atop the points. Austin Slabaugh holds the second slot.

Dallas Chandler rides the top of the Miller Time Hornets chart where four different drivers have won features. Derek Parrott and Drew Nickell are battling for second headed into this week.
