FREE ADMISSION with monetary donation to a charity at Hawkeye Downs Speedway June 24, 2016 with all proceeds directed to C.O.P.S. (Concerns of Police Survivors), an organization honoring and helping families of fallen officers in the line of duty

On Friday, June 24, community members are invited to enjoy a free night at Hawkeye Downs Speedway knowing their entry fee will go to a great cause. Admission, normally $10, has been changed to a monetary donation with Van Meter Inc. ‘s annual race sponsorship. In return race fans are encouraged to give a monetary donation with 100 percent of the proceeds directed to C.O.P.S, an organization honoring and helping families who have lost an officer in the line of duty. The money raised will also provide hands-on programs designed to help family members receive support from peers and professionals as well as obtain resources to help cope with their loss.

The event will feature a visit from McGruff, the Crime Fighting Dog, K-9 demonstrations, a timed obstacle course competition between city, county, and state officers, Switchback acapella group singing the National Anthem, and much more.

“Each year, Van Meter chooses a different local charity to support. Our goal is to help raise awareness and financial support for the cause,” said Vice President of Sales Todd Ettleman. “Over the last six years we’ve been able to donate over $50,000 to various community organizations and we look forward to helping another great organization. We see this as an opportunity for us to entertain our employees, customers, and members of the community at the speedway, all while achieving one of our core principles which is giving back to the community.”

Van Meter is a 100 percent employee-owned electrical and mechanical distributer based out of Cedar Rapids.
