SEASON CHAMPIONSHIPS ON THE LINE THIS FRIDAY
LIL’RACER CAR CLUB TRICK OR TREAT/AUTOGRAPH SESSION!
(Cedar Rapids, IA 08/17/2016)—The curtain closes on the 2016 edition of the HyVee Racing Series this Friday night when five season champions will be crowned at Hawkeye Downs Speedway.
The features only program will have lineups set by an invert based on total points. The invert will be determined by a dice roll by the current point leader in each division. Each feature will have extra laps as well.
The annual “Lil’ Racer Car Club Trick or Treat/Autograph Night” is also part of the program. All the cars will lineup on the front stretch and kids can “trick or treat” and get autographs. All fans are welcome to visit their favorite drivers during this special event.
11 am – Gates open to the public, Car show open
11 am to 1 pm – drifting demo on the track
11:30 am to 3:30 pm (with breaks) – ViceBox live music
1 pm to 2:30 pm – stunt cycle demo on the track
2:30 to 3:30 – mini-bike drags on the track
3:30 to ? – car drags on the track
After the end of the car drags – burn-out contest on the track
To Be Determined – Blow up the donated car
5 pm – exhibition hall closes
Adult Admission is $10 Children 12 and Under are Free with a Paid Adult

The Big Town Show Down Truck and Tractor Pull is Saturday, August 20th at Hawkeye Downs. This is the second annual event sponsored by Cassill Motors with an additional class this year. Gates open at 5:30 with the pull starting at 6:30. Early tickets can be purchased at Cassill Motors for $15.00 starting July 23rd or the day of the event at the track. Pit pass with general admission is $20. Kids 12 and under free with adult purchase.
Come see 8 competing classes try to go the distance. Some go some blow!

(AUGUST 12, 2016)—Friday night was DS Disposal Kids Night at Cedar Rapids’ Hawkeye Downs Speedway. DS Disposal teamed up with the Lil’ Racer Car Club to give away nearly 40 Bikes and bike helmets and also DS Disposal staged a Candy Dash during Intermission.
Everyone was a winner before the races as well as the Lil’ Racer Car Club presented the Great American Ice Cream Giveaway with free ice cream being scooped up.

This Friday night is DS Disposal Kids Night at Hawkeye Downs Speedway. DS Disposal will be holding a Candy Dash and giving away over a dozen-and-a-half bikes during Intermission.
DS Disposal, located at 4500 6th Street SW, specializes in Trash Removal, Demolition, Debris Removal, Construction Cleanup, Roll-off Container Rental, and Snow Removal.
Fans will want to get to the track early for the Lil’ Racer Car Club FREE Great American Ice Cream Give Giveaway. Ice Cream and toppings will be available while supplies last!

Feature win bonus points were awarded to all feature winners who have competed in 66% of the race events this season after last Friday’s races. Qualifying drivers receive one additional point for each feature win earned this season and will continue to receive bonus points for the last three races of the season.
(Cedar Rapids, IA July 29, 2016) – What a difference a week makes! Last week drivers, fans, and crews were sweltering under high humidity and temperatures. Friday night on “ Croell Redi-Mix Night” the temperatures were 25 degrees cooler with much less humidity as well.
After winning his heat earlier in the evening, 12-year-old Sammy Smith, from the Des Moines area, picked up his first Dublin City Pub INEX Legends feature win Friday night out-running Matt Blake to the checkered flag. Smith took the lead on the first lap after starting outside the first row and never surrendered the point over the 25-lap feature.

(Cedar Rapids,IA July 22, 2016)—Fans and racers alike endured a brutal heat index at Hawkeye Downs Speedway on Friday night but were rewarded with some hot racing to accompany the temperatures on Casey’s General Stores Wall of Fame Night.
The American Iron Racing Series joined the regular Friday night divisions of the HyVee Racing series with a dozen “Nostlagia” Cars such as Mustangs, Camaros, Fairlanes, Novas, and other classic models that were a common sight on race tracks in their heyday.
The 2016 class of the Hawkeye Downs Wall of Fame was also inducted Friday night on the front stretch during Intermission. This years’ inductees joining an already prestigious list from past years were Dick Hutcherson, Ron Hutcherson, Jim L. Brown, Tony Dean, Arnie Juhl, and Jim Wittke.
