100.7 THE FOX FREE RACE COMING UP FRIDAY NIGHT
MECHANICS CHALLENGE AND “CHUCK A DUCK FOR A BUCK” ALSO ON THE CARD
(CEDAR RAPIDS, IA)—It’s week seven of the HyVee Racing Series at Historic Hawkeye Downs Speedway -Iowa’s only full time paved racetrack. After inclement weather scrubbed last weeks’ action, drivers and crews are eager to get back on the track and what better way to do that than Fox Free Race Night.
KKRQ-FM/ 100.7 “The Fox” presents its annual free race with the help of Dupaco and Midas. Free tickets are still available at eastern Iowa Dupaco locations, and at the KKRQ Studios located at I-80 and Dubuque Street in Iowa City.
Fans will want to get to Hawkeye Downs early for the best seats AND “Happy Hour at the ‘Downs” featuring 2-for-1 Tallboys until 7pm!
All five divisions of the HyVee Racing Series return to the track Friday night to wage battle on the quarter and half-mile ovals at Hawkeye Downs.
In Miller Time Hornets, Kurt Bohnsack has a seven point margin over Dallas Chandler who sits in second on the points chart. Bohnsack has three feature wins this season while Chandler has one.
Also on the quarter-mile, Nathan Ballard continues to build his point lead in the Barron Motor Supply Hobby Stocks. Ballard has dominated the division so far this season with Jason Sherman holding down the second slot on the point chart.
In Dublin City Pub INEX Legends, Kevin Korsmo holds a razor-thin three point margin over Brody Willett. Willett has one feature win to his credit while Korsmo has used consistent high finishes to garner the lead.
The remaining quarter-mile division, the Mountain Dew Sportsmen, has seen Dave McCalla post four wins in four starts. Bob Ahrendsen is next in line on the chart while Jim Hanson holds down third.
Finally, on the Hawkeye Downs half-mile, Caleb Adrian has forged a narrow point lead in the Carpetland USA Late Models presented by Performance Concepts. Adrian has two wins this season including the Big 8 Late Models feature on June 5. Griffin McGrath sits just three points behind Adrian in second.
Fans will want to arrive early to witness the Mechanics Challenge event on the front stretch at approximately 6:45 pm. Watch four ‘Mechanics” race to assemble a Big Wheel. Winner gets a Checkers Tavern Party Pass.
The Hawkeye Downs Lil’ Racer Car Club is hosting its popular “Chuck a Duck for a Buck” during Intermission Friday night. Fans can stop by the Lil’ Racer Clubhouse under the main grandstand to rent their duck. The duck landing closest to the target wins a four-pack of tickets for Lost Island Water Park along with a mystery prize. Get there early as supplies of ducks are limited!
Hawkeye Downs and Hy-Vee have again teamed up to offer a new and improved concessions menu this season along with the return of Pepsi Products for 2015.
The Front Gate and Concessions open at 6pm. Pre-Race Ceremonies will begin at 7:25pm with the first race at 7:30pm.
Hawkeye Downs continues to hold the line on admission prices. (Regular admission prices will be in effect for those without free tickets.) Adult admission is STILL just $10, Senior Citizens (62+) are $7, Students over 12 are just $5, and Children 12 and Under are absolutely FREE!
