The event will feature a celebrity Legend Car Pride Race between President and CEO of Van Meter, Kevin Powell, KCRG-TV’s Reporter, Forrest Saunders, 1600 KGYM’s program director, Scott Unash, and Big 10 Network Commentator and former NFL and Hawkeye Football legend, Chuck Long. This event has become an annual tradition sponsored by the employees of Van Meter.
“We choose a different local charity each year to support. Our goal is to help raise awareness and financial support for the cause,” said Vice President of Sales Todd Ettleman. “Over the last five years we’ve been able to donate over $26,000 to various community organizations and look forward to helping another great organization. We see this as an opportunity for us to entertain our employees, customers, and members of the community at the raceway, all while achieving one of our core principles in giving back to the community.”
The gates at Hawkeye Downs Speedway open at 6 PM and races start 7:30 PM. Admission will be a monetary donation at the gate. Hawkeye Downs is located at 4400 6th Street SW in Cedar Rapids.

Once in the lead, Adrian pulled away from the pack posting a nearly three and a half second margin over Herbst. Rockford Speedway’s Michael Bilderback finished third, Hawkeye Downs ‘ Brian Gibson was fourth, and Rockford’s Jon Reynolds, Jr. , was fifth.
The first twenty circuits around the Hawkeye Downs half-mile were relatively trouble free but the last 28 laps proved to be troublesome with at least seven cautions slowing the action. Four of those saw several cars, including the #64 Griffin McGrath machine, receive substantial damage. NASCAR XFINITY Series driver and former Hawkeye Downs weekly racer Joey Gase received damage also after being punted into the turn three wall on the final lap.
