We now play on Monday, Thursday, and Saturday nights.

Hawkeye Downs Bingo features a variety of games and jackpots in a great environment that is climate controlled. This year, we have added consistent payouts as part of our program.

Cedar Rapids, Iowa – Hawkeye Downs Speedway drivers and race teams are eager to get back to racing after weather pulled the plug on last Friday’s program.

This Friday, May 26, marks week four of the 2017 Hy-Vee Racing Series at Hawkeye Downs Speedway. The speedway, Eastern Iowa’s premiere racing venue, is now in its 92nd year of operation and an integral part of Hawkeye Downs, a leading quality entertainment venue.

This week, Hawkeye Downs Speedway is proud to honor area Public Service agencies with “Public Service Appreciation Night.”  Vehicles and representatives from various local public service agencies will be hand all evening as we honor the sacrifices these men and women make daily to protect and serve the area.

The Dublin City Pub INEX Legends, Miller Time Hornets, Mountain Dew Sportsmen, Anderson Automotive Hobby Stocks and Performance Concepts Late Models will all be action as well as the point battles continue.

The competition on the track remains hot and heavy with only one repeat feature winner in the first couple weeks of the season. Cory Houdek, who has won both features in Sportsmen leads the points in that division. Caleb Adrian holds down the top slot in Late Models, Jim Hanson leads Hobby Stocks, Sammy Smith sit atop the Legends, and Drew Nickell has the edge in Hornets.

The Lil’ Racer Car Club is on hand again this with a coloring contest and School Bus Rides for the kids. Kids can pick up pictures to color in the clubhouse under the main grandstand.

May 19 races Cancelled Due to Weather

Due to current weather conditions and an unfavorable weather forecast Hawkeye Downs Officials have cancelled the racing program for tonight, Friday, May 19.

Hawkeye Downs Speedway makes every effort to run the racing program when practical. However,  in consideration of drivers who travel varying distances to race with us as well as driver and fan safety and comfort the difficult decision was made to cancel tonight’s program..

Racing resumes next Friday night May 26 with Public Service Appreciation Night. Gates open at 6pm with racing at 7:30pm.

COMPETITION HEATING UP WITH THE TEMPERTURES AT HAWKEYE DOWNS SPEEDWAY

The A.I.R.S. Vintage Cars will join the regular racing divisions for a full night of racing for the first of two appearances on the schedule this season. A.I.R.S. features vintage cars, mostly from the 60’s and 70’s, that will be familiar to race fans young and old.

The Dublin City Pub INEX Legends, Miller Time Hornets, Mountain Dew Sportsmen, Anderson Automotive Hobby Stocks and Performance Concepts Late Models will all be action as well as the point battles continue.

Enthusiasm High Among Drivers and Fans at Hawkeye Downs

Cedar Rapids, Iowa – Drivers and fans alike have expressed renewed excitement about the Hawkeye Downs Speedway Racing Program after the first week of racing saw the highest opening night car count in several years.

Hawkeye Downs Speedway and Expo Center, Eastern Iowa’s premiere racing and leading quality entertainment venue is characterizing its new racing season as one of great changes, fresh focus and renewed energy and the season opener’s races were indicative of that.

This Friday night is “Mom’s Night” with the Lil’ Racer Car Club giving out “Flowers for Moms,“ and holding a raffle for a Mary Kay Basket and a Tour and Dinner in Kalona.

Hawkeye Downs Speedway and the Lil’ Racer Car Club are also “Caring for Race Kids” with a special night for Gage Siems and his family.

The pits open at 4:00 PM, gates at 6:00 PM and racing begins at 7:30 PM. The season features  a full program of HY-VEE Racing Series heat and feature racing as Performance Concepts Big 8 Late Models, Mountain Dew Sportsmen, Anderson Automotive Hobby Stocks, Miller Time Hornets, and Dublin City Pub INEX Legend Cars will take to the track.

Caleb Adrian is the current point leader in Late Models, Cory Houdek holds the top spot in Sportsmen, Kurt Bohnsack leads the Hobby Stock points, Sammy Smith tops the Legends and Derek Parrott sits atop the Hornets point chart heading into week two.

One of those who has been most ardent is Roger Cassill, owner of Cassill Motors and father to NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Landon Cassill. “Big-Picture” Excitement for Racing and Beyond

Cedar Rapids, Iowa – Hawkeye Downs Speedway and Expo Center, Eastern Iowa’s premiere racing and leading quality entertainment venue is characterizing its new racing season as one of great changes, fresh focus and renewed energy as a community asset for residents and visitors. This Friday night May 5th marks the official opening of the season.

Josh Moore, President of the Board of Directors, said the board members and staff reevaluated the support and opportunities for the facility, including seeking input and listening to the community. “We now have a rejuvenated and exciting approach in the works with fresh enthusiasm from the board, our team, the city, our wonderful fans, families and new friends – all of us excited about the potential of 90 acres known as Hawkeye Downs.”

Ann Poe, recently appointed Executive Director of Hawkeye Downs said, “The momentum is here and growing for this unique, wide-ranging place to enjoy, to experience new, fun and exciting events and activities – in racing and beyond racing. We’re not doing things in the same way. We’ve got a new attitude, new spirit and new, fantastic plans.”  Poe said there have already been significant improvements with more in the works, including, aesthetic, facility and grounds improvements, renovations, a brand new kid zone, new specialty novelties, new signage and, most importantly, expanded offerings, features and activities.  “With the help of strong community partners, it’s all about revitalizing our facilities and finding new and exciting opportunities for moving Hawkeye Downs forward as a robust community venue. It is so thrilling,” said Poe.

Central to the new focus is forging new relationships within the community and beyond, “but we’re also welcoming back our awesome ardent supporters who mean so much to Hawkeye Downs,” said Poe. This Friday’s first race is “Grandparents Night” with pits opening at 4:00 PM, gates at 6:00 PM and racing beginning at 7:30 PM. The season will feature a full program of HY-VEE Racing Series heat and feature racing as Performance Concepts Big 8 Late Models, Mountain Dew Sportsmen, Anderson Automotive Hobby Stocks, Miller Time Hornets, and Dublin City Pub INEX Legend Cars will take to the track for their first points events of the season. Hawkeye Downs Speedway is pleased to continue its affiliation with the Lil’ Racer Car Club in 2017.

Five big divisions will battle on the quarter-mile and the half-mile asphalt ovals in 2017. Hawkeye Downs/Big 8 Late models, Sportsmen, Hobby Stocks, Hornets and INEX Legends each Friday night until August 18th.
