(August 4th, 2017- By Caleb Slouha) The fans who attended Friday night’s races spectated some of the best racing of the year, and we anticipate the final few weeks will do the same.
—
Friday night hosted the final Carpetland USA “Floor-It” Dash of the year. Just a three-lap dash with only three cars became an exciting finish. John Ferden took the lead from the start, but Sydney Henderson charged to the outside. With one lap to go, Henderson used momentum to get right alongside Ferden. It looked to be a photo finish, but Ferden wiggled and Henderson won her first race.
—
The championship battle in the Miller Time Hornets Series continues to be tight between Derek Parrott and Dallas Chandler. Rookie Stewart Hall took the early lead, but four laps in Chandler overtook him. As they battled close all over the track it led to Curt Gibbs going off-track with three to go which ended his night. Chandler would have a fantastic restart following and pull into victory lane for the fourth time this year.
—
Braxton Franks and Bryan Baxter led the field to green in the Anderson Automotive Hobby Stocks. For the opening 5 laps, the leaders battled side-by-side, making contact several times while third through eighth place queued behind them. It was essentially an 8-car battle for the lead and with 12 to go “Bubba” Hall took over first. He would lead for 6 laps until Jim Hanson lightly used the bumper to take the lead. It was a close battle as Kurt Bohnsack joined in, and the three DS Disposal cars went bumper-to-bumper. Hanson would earn win number seven.
—
After starting on the front row, Kevin Korsmo controlled the field right from the start of the Dublin City Pub Inex Legends race. He held off drivers Brady Rhode and Dave McCalla, who have multiple feature wins this year, to win his first feature of the year. Rhode started near the back, and carefully worked his way through traffic to finish second, but did not have enough time to catch Korsmo.
—
A competitive Mountain Dew Sportsmen race at one point led to the leaders going four-wide into turn 1. CJ VanHorn and Brandon Herb then made contact in turn 3, resulting in Cory Houdek becoming involved. The damage would be too much for Houdek and Herb to continue for the night. Greg Hentrich came out of the battle with the lead, and held off Drew Nickell for his second win of the year.
—
Griffin McGrath started the feature in 5th, and made a rare 3-wide pass from the complete outside lane to take the third place. With 14 laps to go, he made the pass for second on the outside as well. When he got to the leader Brad Osborn, McGrath once again took to the outside to complete the pass and lead the remaining seven laps for his second win of the year.
—
Racing continues Friday, August 11th with DS Disposal Night. Gates open at 6:00 pm, racing begins at 7:30 pm.
