Racin’ and Rockin’ to Support The Military Friday June 16

Cedar Rapids, IA- This Friday , June 16 Hawkeye Downs presents “Racin’ and Rockin’ to Support Our Military”, sponsored by Cassill Motors. The event promises to be an evening full of racing, music, raffles, family activities, and more, all to recognize and support active and retired military personnel.

One of the highlights will be Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series/Front Row Motorsports driver Landon Cassill returning to his home track for the first time in almost ten years, to race in a 50-lap Performance Concepts Late Model feature. Cassill will pilot the #10 Iowa Hawkeyes Late Model usually driven by former Iowa Hawkeye Wrestler Mark Ironside.

“Mark is great, it is a real honor to drive his car.” Cassill said. “It is really fun to come out to Hawkeye Downs. The racing is always competitive and exciting.”

Cassill Motors, a company owned by Landon Cassill’s family, is sponsoring the special night.

“We are thrilled to be sponsoring and supporting Hawkeye Downs wholeheartedly,” said Jay Cassill of Cassill Motors.  “We’re committed to the Hawkeye Downs new focus, endeavors and efforts. We couldn’t be more proud to promote the season with sponsorship of Military Night, honoring our active and retired military.”

Gates for this special event open at 5:00pm with an inflatable slide, obstacle course, climbing wall, balloon artist, face painting, military booths, a dunk tank, and a DJ in the Street Dance area .

A Free Military Dinner will be in held in the Hawkeye Downs Expo Hall from 5:30-6:30 for active and retired military members. Each member may bring one guest.

Raffle Tickets for over $10,000 worth of prize packages will also go one sale when the gates open and will continue to be sold throughout the evening.

The evenings’ race program gets underway at 7:00pm with a very special opening ceremony followed by races for Dublin City Pub Legends, Mountain Dew Sportsmen, Anderson Automotive Hobby Stocks, Miller Time Hornets, and the big 50-lap feature for Performance Concepts Late Models.

After the races, fans are encouraged to stay for a post-race Street Dance outside the Tavern on the Mall area featuring music from “Reddoor” and “Six Shots Til Midnight.” Food and beverages will be available as well. Raffle winners will be announced at the beginning of the Street Dance.

A “free will admission” ($5.00/person suggested) is the only ticket needed to attend the entire event Friday night with all proceeds from admissions and the raffles to benefit Midwest Military Outreach, Operation Home, and the National Tee Tournament. All three organizations benefit active military, veterans, and their families.
