Last year was the first annual Military Night at Hawkeye Downs. $2000 each was raised for three separate charities that help Veterans as well as a meal that was hosted for active Military and Veterans before the races.
The inaugural 50-lap late model race for a $1000 victory saw Brody Willett beat the field, which included Landon Cassill.
Willett Wins 50 Lap Military Night Feature
Teenager Brody Willett beat Landon Cassill and the rest of the weekly late model racers Friday night in the first annual $1000-to-win Military Night race.
Brian Gibson and Cassill started on the front row for the feature. Gibson gained the advantage on the start. Six laps in, Caleb Adrian took the lead and showed the field the way until Willett made a pass on the outside on the final lap of the first half.
The field was inverted for the second half, leaving Brad Osborn to lead until Griffin McGrath took the lead two laps in. Osborn was left to battle Caleb Adrian, when the two made contact 5 laps in sending Adrian into the wall. McGrath had a great restart following, but Willett closed in with 10 laps to go, and on the final lap was able to complete the pass to win.
Dallas Chandler, Jim Hanson, Cory Houdek, and Brady Rhode were the winners of the other series races Friday night. Full results can be found here: Military Night Results
