Due to Shadrack’s Christmas Adventure & Santa Village at Hawkeye Downs this winter, we will NOT be hosting Dogs at the Downs Fall 2023-Spring 2024.

About Dogs at the Downs Indoor Dog Park

Dogs are invited to our indoor dog park from 5-7:30 p.m. on Tuesday nights from November-March to romp in the North Expo Hall for only $5 per animal (admission for humans is FREE!).

Proof of Canine Vaccination is REQUIRED

Proof of canine vaccination is required (Bordetalla, Parvo and rabies). You only need to show this record the first time you attend, and we will save a copy for our records. You (or your veterinarian) may submit the records through email by emailing hdofficemanager@hawkeyedowns.org.

COVID-19 Precautions

Masks are recommended for all humans, especially those not fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Waste Clean Up

Humans are expected to clean up after their animals. Waste disposal supplies and sanitizing stations are provided throughout the facility, and there are grassy areas outside all doors to allow for animals to be comfortable relieving themselves.

Code of Conduct/Behavior

We expect healthy behaviors from all canine and human participants at this event. Staff reserves the right to ask you to separate your animal temporarily, or leave the facility for the night if we see behavior that concerns us or puts other humans or animals at risk. Repeat offenders may not be permitted re-entry.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs):

Q: Is there a separate little dog area?
A: Unfortunately we have not found an effective way to provide a little dog area in a temporary way. We continue to evaluate, and welcome your suggestions!

Q: Can I attend if I’m not feeling great?
A: If you have a cough, fever, sore throat, runny nose, etc. we ask that you stay home. We want to keep everyone safe and healthy over the winter! If we find that you have attended and exhibit symptoms, our staff reserves the right to ask you to leave for the safety and wellbeing of everyone attending.

Q: Can I buy snacks & drinks?
A: Our concession stand does plan to be open for these events. However, staff reserves the right to alter this plan at any time based on staffing and sales records.

Q: How old does my animal need to be?
A: At a minimum, your dog should be old enough to be fully vaccinated. We ask that you consider how socialized your animal is, along with prior history of behaviors, when evaluating if your puppy is ready for the dog park.

Q: I don’t have a dog. Can I come and play or walk around the edge of the venue?
A: We are happy to provide a safe, climate-controlled environment for you to get a walk in after work! We ask that you consider a $5 donation to help us continue to make the space available for everyone.

Dogs at the Downs Vendor Information

We will offer the opportunity for vendors to attend these evenings again! Please consult our Vendor Handbook prior to applying as a vendor.

Price: A 10X10 space at Dogs at the Downs can be secured for $20/date. You can save $5/date if you pre-register and pre-pay for 15+ events this season. Payments will be made after you have received approval to vend.
