Build My Future: Construction Career Day & Industry Showcase
Build My Future, hosted by the Future Builders of Iowa and the local home builders associations, gives 7th through 12th grade students an opportunity to spend a day in the construction industry through an interactive showcase on Tuesday, April 30th at Hawkeye Downs in Cedar Rapids.
Industry partners will provide hands-on activities for career exploration. Included will be educational displays, equipment operations, and learning labs. Learning labs will allow students to try their hands at various construction industry practices such as carpentry, electrical, heavy equipment operation, masonry, and much more!
HISTORY OF THE EVENT
2019 was the 1st Annual Build My Future-ACE event in the ICR region. Through this event, 18 local companies, Kirkwood faculty, and Skilled Trades Associations engaged 153 middle school students from 10 schools in hands-on training in a wide range of activities including roofing, siding, designing & building a tiny house, framing, hanging & mudding drywall, plumbing, hanging doors, GPS surveying, excavation and underground utilities, job site supervision, tying rebar, old methods vs. new technologies, bricklaying, and much more.
Deadline to register is March 22nd. All schools in Eastern Iowa are invited.
