Memories in the Making: Cassill Motors Wall of Fame Night

There are only two races remaining in the 2023 season at Hawkeye Downs Speedway!

At the Cassill Motors Wall of Fame Night this past Friday, we were thrilled to induct yet another group of individuals and organizations into the Hawkeye Downs Wall of Fame. This year’s inductees include Bob Ahrendsen, Bob Kosiski, Joe Kosiski, Del Long, and Performance Engineering. Congratulations to all!

On the track, Dylan Prohaska was able to lead the first couple laps of the Sunline Hornets while Corey Crispin made this way through the field. Crispin went from six to third in two laps and later took the lead from Jay Crabill on lap eight to claim another victory on the season. Crispin leads Chad Vozenilek by 21 points in the standings.

It was a photo finish in the Anderson Automotive Hobby Stocks! Adam Petrzelka just barely held off a hard-charging Reggie Mitchell. Had there been one more lap, the roles may have been reversed. Petrzelka came home with the victory. Derek Parrott leads Mitchell and Petrzelka by seven points heading into the final two races.

Todd Ness put on a clinic in the Performance Foods Sportsman Series, keeping Jim Hanson and Jacob Tiegen at bay for his fifth win of the season. Ness charged to the front early and held on, which puts him just two points behind Hanson in the standings.

The Eastern Iowa Vintage Series rolled into town on Friday night. It was a field boasting with people such as Dan Thompson, Richard Nelson, and our very own Pastor Wiley. It was a heat and feature sweep for Nelson on the night, who has experience in several classes at Hawkeye Downs. Two drivers, Brian Ashmore and Allen Hansen, were unable to finish the event.

There was also a sweep in the Legends.Direct Legends with Austin Slabaugh taking home a heat and feature victory. Kevin Korsmo saw a lot of Slabaugh’s bumper throughout the evening, finishing second both times to Slabaugh but was able to get a brief run on him late in the race. Kacey Korsmo leads Danny Lehmkuhl by nine points in the standings.

In the Cassill Motors Sport Mods, Patrick Flannagan worked his way through the field patiently once again to claim the victory over Jonny Williams. Chad Siems led the opening 11 laps but an issue resulted in an 8th place finish. Flannagan leads Williams by 27 points with two races remaining.

Friday, August 11th is the final race before our 2023 season championship! All five weekly racing classes will join us, plus the late models! Gates open at 6pm, hot laps at 6:40 pm, and racing begins at 7pm. See you at the track!
